How can I remove the word "Sample" on the receipt?
You can do this by purchasing the full version of the app, which is available through an in-app purchase. Please go to the Settings section of the app, click on the row with the in-app purchase description and price, and proceed from there.
If I buy the full version, will the "Sample" mark be removed from existing receipts?
Yes, the full version will remove the "Sample" mark from all receipts, including the ones you have already created.
Sending out receipts through iMessage does not always work!
This situation arises in cases where iMessage is forced to use SMS to send the message, which happens, for example, when your device only knows a recipient by their Android phone number. SMS text messages can only take a limited number of text characters and cannot have PDF attachments, hence why the app returns the error message. It’s essentially to do with the limits of what’s possible with SMS.
The workaround is to use the person's email address in iMessage, not their phone number.
Basics
What is the difference between an invoice and a receipt?
An invoice is a request for payment. A receipt is an acknowledgment of payment.
Who is this app for? Is it for suppliers of services and goods? Or is it for customers?
This app is designed for suppliers of services or goods. The supplier of the service or the goods takes payment and issues the receipt to acknowledge receipt of the payment.
For example: Kate Bell supplies fruit to John Appleseed. John Appleseed pays $100 for the fruit delivery. Kate Bell issues the receipt to John Appleseed, to acknowledge that she received $100.
I'm a customer and I need a receipt from a supplier. Can I use this app?
Yes, you can ask the supplier to fill in the data, or you can fill in the data on their behalf. The supplier would need to sign the receipt.
For example: Kate Bell delivers fruit to John Appleseed. John Appleseed pays $100 for the fruit delivery. John requests a receipt. He asks Kate to use his Receipts app. Kate fills in the data on John's device, and signs the receipt. John sends Kate a copy.
Creating Receipts
Can I change the date format on the receipts?
Yes, you can. The app initially uses the default date format of your device. You can change to a different date format by selecting another region in the Settings section of the app. The app will then use the date formatting conventions of that particular region.
Can I change the currency on the receipts?
Yes, you can. The app initially uses the default currency of your device. You can change to a different currency by selecting another region in the Settings section of the app. The app will then use the currency of that particular region.
The currency is wrong on the receipt! I've typed in "$100" but the receipt says "£100"!
There is an interesting edge case in which this can happen. The app takes the currency from the one that you set in Settings. And it strips the currency symbol from the amount that you enter on the Add Receipt screen. For example, if you type "$100" in the Add Receipt screen, the app will only take forward "100". So, you could theoretically set the currency as Pound Sterling, type in "$100", and the receipt would show as "£100".
The solution is simply to change the currency to the one you like in the Settings screen of the app.
Can I edit a receipt once I have created it?
Sorry, the app does not allow that. You will need to create a new receipt.
Is my data stored in the cloud, and can it be retrieved when I re-install the app on another device?
Yes, as of version 3.0, your receipts and logos are saved to iCloud, and will sync with iOS other devices. Please note you must be logged in with the same iCloud Apple ID on each device for this to work.
The app uses Apple CloudKit technology to sync the data, and your data is stored in a private database on Apple's iCloud servers. We have no access to this private database.
Logos
Can I use my own company logo for the receipts?
Yes, this is available from version 2.5.
I am not seeing any logo functionality in the app?
In that case, you are probably running a version lower than 2.5. Typically, our apps are updated automatically, but updates do not happen if you have switched off the auto-update feature or if you have not upgraded to the latest version of iOS.
The version number of the app is located in the Settings screen of the app.
How do I add a logo?
Go to the Settings screen of the app, and tap Import Logos. You can import a logo image here from the photos on your device.
When you next add a receipt, you can select this image in the Add Receipts screen of the app.
How can I remove a logo image?
Go to the Settings screen of the app, and tap Import Logos. To delete a logo image, press and hold the image. A Delete button will appear. Tap the button to remove the logo image.
Will the logos on my receipts be removed if I remove a logo image in Settings?
No, logos on the receipts will not be removed because they are saved with the receipts. The receipts will remain as they are.
Will I remove the image in my Photo Album on my device if I remove a logo image?
No, the app will only remove images that it has copied to its own database. The images in your Photo Album will not be removed.
What are the specs of the image in the receipts?
Before the app copies the logo image into its database, it will scale down the image to fit an area of 250 pixels wide and 250 pixels high. Aspect ratios are preserved, meaning that images can be vertical or horizontal rectangles.
Does the app resize the logo image in my Photo Album as well?
No, the app does not touch the images in your Photo Album; these will always remain as they are.
What is the best pixel size for a logo image in this app?
Any image with more than 250 pixels wide or 250 pixels high should be fine. If it is lower than this pixel size, the logo will become a bit blurry.
For an absolutely pixel-perfect import, either the width or the height of your logo should be exactly 250 pixels.
How do I match the background color of my logo to the background color of the receipt?
The easiest way to do this is to make the background of your image file transparent before you import the image into Receipts. All major image editing applications support conversion to transparent backgrounds. There are also a number of websites that are able to convert a solid background into a transparent background.
