How do I give the app permission to access the contacts on my device?
You can give permission to Business Contacts by going to the Settings on your device. In Settings, go to Privacy and then select Contacts. The apps that have requested access to your contacts appear here, and all being right you should see the Business Contacts app there as well. Turn on the switch, restart Business Contacts and you are ready to go!
What are the benefits of the Pro version?
These are the benefits of purchasing the Pro version.
1. You can search, group and sort your contacts by city, state, and country.
2. There are no restrictions to your call list: it can be as long as you like.
3. You can import business contact data using a CSV file (up to 100 contacts per file)
4. You can download all business contact data from your app using the Export feature.
Thank you for purchasing the full version of Business Contacts, it is much appreciated!
Does the app upload any contact data to an external server?
No. All data is kept on your device. We do not upload any data to an external server.
When you edit business contact data from within the app, these edits are fully synchronised with the contacts database on your device. Apple software will then synchronise these updates in the same way as the standard Contacts app of the device.
Does the app store separate data apart from what's already in the Contact database of my device?
From version 1.9 onwards, Business Contacts stores call list data on your device to keep track of the call list. This list is not uploaded to an external server and it is not synchronised across devices.
Viewing your business contacts:
What's the difference between the "search by", "group by", and "sort by" settings?
The "search by" setting determines how the contacts are being displayed in the main search screen.
Once you have selected a group of contacts, the "group by" setting determines how these contacts are grouped together.
The "sort by" setting determines how contacts are sorted within each their groups.
When I choose "Search By" city, why are there countries and states attached to some cities?
This is usually the result of a prior data entry mistake. Apple holds a "city" label for each contact, but some users, and some conversion programs, put the city and the region and the country in that label.
When I choose "Search By" state, why do I sometimes get a value that looks nothing like a US state?
This could be the result of a prior data entry mistake (see above for "city"), but the "state" label is reserved in some countries for regions in that country. For example, in the UK it is common to see the county here.
I am seeing the same business appear multiple times with slight variations in spelling?
Yes this can happen, especially when contacts have been synchronized with LinkedIn or other social media applications. It is to do with how your contacts are recording their company names. If there are variations in these names then Business Contacts will treat those different names as different companies.
If you find this troublesome then the solution would be to edit your contacts individually, and provide them with the same uniform company name.
Why are some images in the gallery much sharper than other images? Some images are blurry.
The gallery resizes all images to fit the available space in the tiles on the screen. The tile size is 170px by 170px. If your contacts have high-resolution images, i.e. higher than 170px by 170px, the images will be downscaled to fit the tile. They will still appear sharp. If however your contacts have low-resolution images, i.e., lower than 170px by 170px, then the images will be upscaled to fit the tile, and in that case they will look a bit blurry.
Does that mean the app changes the contact images?
No, the app does not change your contact images, the app just displays them in a different size compared to their actual size. The app retrieves the images from your contacts (after you have given permission), and then, depending on the resolution of the image, the app scales the image up or down to fit the tile space in the gallery.
Call List:
What is the call list?
Starting from version 1.9, the app features a call list. You can use this list to keep track of the business contacts you would like to call.
You can add contacts to the list, remove them from the list, and reorder them in the order you would like to call them.
You can mark a contact as "Called", by swiping to the left on the contact. You can also remove them altogether from the list in this way.
When I remove a contact from the list, does it mean that the contact is deleted?
No, if you remove a contact from the list, the contact is not deleted from your contact database. It's just removed from the list.
Does the call list sync across my devices?
No, the call list does not sync across your devices. The call list data is stored on your device only.
Why not?
Syncing your call list would imply that we would need to upload your call list to a central server. The philosophy of this app, however, is to keep all its data on your device. The app does not upload data to a central server, all data stays on the device.
Why are my contacts synced then? Does Business Contacts do that?
No, your contacts are synced across devices through the usual Apple software, according to your Contacts settings. Business Contact does not interfere with that process.
Why am I seeing "Deleted contact" on my call list?
This happens when you put a contact on the call list, but you subsequently delete that contact elsewhere, for example, in the standard Apple Contacts app. You can simply remove the deleted contact from the list by swiping left.
Importing Business Contacts:
When I import contacts from a CSV file, will those contacts be separate from my other iOS contacts?
No these contacts will not be separate from your other iOS contacts. Business Contacts works with the business information of your iOS contacts, and unlike other CRM apps, this app does not operate a separate contact database that is disconnected from your iOS contacts.
This means that all CSV contacts that are successfully imported into Business Contacts will automatically be added to your existing iOS contacts. If you synchronise your contacts using iCloud, all new CSV contacts will be synchronized straightaway across all your devices.
Can I review the updates from the CSV file before I confirm?
Yes, the app will process the CSV file, parse the updates, and present them back to you. You can then cancel or confirm.
When I export a CSV file, and then try to import it back in, why does the app propose 'new' updates? They should be the same?
This can happen if your contact data contains one or more double quotes. The CSV file uses double quotes to separate values, and the app replaces double quotes with single quotes in contact data to prevent the CSV file from having an incorrect structure.
When you import your single quoted contact back into the app, the app will (correctly) spot that the CSV value is different from the original double quoted value.
When I import a URL without 'http' or 'https', why does the app add 'http'?
The app relies on the standard Apple user interface for displaying contacts, and this is a feature of that user interface. The original URL, in the contacts database, is not affected.
When I specify that the app should replace existing values, what happens to 'home' phone numbers, addresses, etc?
The app does not touch these. All postal addresses, web addresses, phone numbers, and emails that are not marked as 'work' are unaffected.
I have the Pro version, but I can only import up to 100 contacts?
The app will not proceed if there are more than 100 contacts to import. You need to split your file into smaller files if you like to import more than 100 contacts.
What is the required format of the CSV file?
The easiest way to do this is to make the background of your image file transparent before you import the image into Receipts. All major image editing applications support conversion to transparent backgrounds. There are also a number of websites that are able to convert a solid background into a transparent background.
Exporting Business Contacts:
Why did the app not export the phone numbers of my contact?
The app only exports phone numbers that are labeled as 'work'. Phone numbers labeled as 'home' or 'mobile' are not exported.
Why did the app not export the emails of my contact?
The app only exports emails that are labeled as 'work'. Emails labeled as 'home' are not exported.
Why did the app not export the web addresses of my contact?
The app only exports web addresses that are labeled as 'work'. Web addresses labeled as 'home' are not exported.
Why did the app not export the postal address of my contact?
The app only exports postal addresses that are labeled as 'work'. Postal addresses labeled as 'home' are not exported.
When I import the CSV file into Excel, some of the text does not display correctly!
This is a known Excel issue, and has to do with Excel's automatic import functionality not recognising Unicode CSV files. Excel transforms the Unicode characters into their equivalent ASCII characters, and these characters are part of a much more limited character set.
The solution is to notify Excel that you are importing a Unicode file. In Microsoft Excel for Mac, follow the following steps. First, create a blank workbook. Then click File / Import. Choose CSV file (the first option). Click on the Mileage Tracker CSV file. A text wizard will appear that has three steps. In the first step, there is a File Origin option, which is set to Macintosh. Change this setting to Unicode UTF-8. In the second step, Excel will ask for delimiters and qualifiers of your CSV file. Ensure you have ticked the comma as the delimiter and the double quote as the text qualifier. Click Finish and you are done.
In-App Purchases:
Where can I buy the in-app purchase that this app offers?
Within the app, please go to Settings, where you can view the in-app purchase description and price, and please proceed from there. Thank you for purchasing an in-app purchase, it is much appreciated.
I am getting the error message 'Cannot connect to iTunes Store'.
This is a general message that the AppStore server returns to your device when the AppStore could not complete a purchase. It can be due to several reasons. The username or password may be incorrect. You may have cancelled mid-way. You may have changed your Apple ID recently, on another device. If this is the case, you may have to sign out and sign in again with the new Apple ID. It could also be a case of updating to the latest version of iOS, or ensuring that the time zone on your device is correct. Apple has a dedicated support page for the message here.
I have bought an in-app purchase, but I would like to install the app on a different device. Do I need to buy the in-app purchase again?
No, you don’t have to. You can download the app again from the AppStore on your new device. Then, go to the App's, Settings (in the App itself, not the Settings of your device), and click 'Restore Purchase'.
Please make sure that you are signed in on your new device, and that you are using the AppStore with the same Apple ID, otherwise the AppStore will not recognize it as a previous purchase.
Does this app support Family Sharing?
The free version of this app can be shared across your family but unfortunately the in-app purchases and subscriptions cannot.
